Extreme Heat Today, 09/06/2022
Good morning, all. I hope everyone stayed safe over the weekend. It seemed pretty quiet out there…
We managed to squeak through last evening with no rolling black outs, thanks to everyone’s conservation efforts. Today will be a challenge as well so please continue minimizing electrical use, especially between 4 – 10 p.m. this evening. To assist with this effort, the City will go to generator back up for all facilities with emergency power. As I look to this week’s weather, we will still have extremely hot weather although hopefully today will be the peak for the week. Please continue to use major appliances in the morning, close and cover windows, unplug electric vehicles in the afternoon, and do all your electronic charging in the morning. Pre-cool homes and then set the thermostats at 78 or warmer beginning at 4 p.m. We will need power for the late afternoons and evenings.
The library will be open until 8 p.m. tonight if anyone needs a place to cool down. The City’s pool will be open 5:45 – 8:45 p.m. for lap swim. The deck is extremely hot, however, and the lifeguards have had a challenging time. We’ll post on Facebook if we need to close early, which we did over the long weekend for employee safety.
I’ll be away for a conference beginning tomorrow through Friday so there will be no weekly update on Friday. Police Chief Miller will Acting City Manager in my absence.
Have a good week. Temperatures will cool down beginning on Saturday, thank goodness.
Best, Kathleen
